HAVING learned how to program an original computer game in SCRATCH, today’s task for Year 5 was to create some publicity material to promote the game - with a view to making a ‘pitch’ to the ‘Dragons’...
The boys and girls learned a number of new techniques, including selective screenshots (to capture images from SCRATCH), copy and paste, creating display lettering in Comic Life, introduce transparency using ‘Instant Alpha’, how to ‘crop’, resize, arrange and rotate images, extract images using ‘smart lasso, choose appropriate colours using the ‘colour picker’ and much more.
The session began by looking at examples of other computer game publicity and the conventions and features employed. Then after a demonstration the children got on with their designs.
Later the computer bus man showed how to use the work they had done to copy and paste ‘assets’ (such a logos) to a Keynote slide show with a view to making a presentation to the ‘Dragons’. Year 5 were also shown how to export their slideshow as a Quicktime video, with a view to superimposing green screen footage of themselves on top to make a commercial...
This is the last computer bus visit to a primary school this year - a splendid way to finish. Thank you.
