DAY 3 at the unique ‘Bunscoill’ saw Years R, 1, 4, 5 and 6 on board the Computer Bus.
Year’s 4, 5 and 6 were working with the superb 3-D modellng program ‘Google Sketchup’, creating either a model of the school building itself, or (for Year 4 who were new to 3-D) a simple ‘house’. Time was also taken to discuss how they might create a model of St.John’s Church - and how to transfer material to and from Apple’s PAGES program so that the children can model boxes for their Manx version of a monopoly-style game.
The school-modelling exercise began with an early morning tour of the building to familiarise themselves with its layout. The results (left) were universally ‘superb’ and a credit to the boys and girls. Only a few examples are shown here - but all the models will be worked on over the next few days to make them even more complete. (The ‘church’ models will be most interesting...)
Later - Years R and 1 continued with their work looking at ‘transport’, with drawings of vehicles created in the object-orientated ‘PAGES’ program, with the afternoon rounded off with a quick visit to SPOSH to make a seasonal postcard...
An enjoyable and productive week at the Manx School -
NEXT WEEK: ONCHAN.
Bunscoill Day 3
21/11/2008
THE Bunscoill Gaelgagh is based in the former St.Johns Primary School situated in the heart of the village directly opposite the fabulous Tynwald Hill. It dates from the 1870s and is in the process of extensive renovations inside and out...
It is also a superb project for an introduction to 3-D modelling...
