TODAY, Year 4, 5 and 6 were back to continue their html coding, putting together a web page around their current topic ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’. They used <body>, <h1>, <p>, <img>, <style> and more to generate the web pages shown here.
“html” stands for HyperText Markup Language. As well as learning about the creation of web pages using the language invented 30 years ago by Tim Berners-Lee, there are many side benefits to this activity - including proper use of a keyboard.
The language demands the use of many non-standard characters such as < and > not to mention :, :, {,,}, (, ). !, and many more.
The boys and girls also uses Apple’s Pages to create original graphics for their website, which of course had to be coded in using the <img> tag.
They also looked at the superb w3schools.com website and were shown how to take their html skills further should they so wish.
Later in the day Year 4, 5 and 6 were also introduced to one of out favourite programs SketchUp, and will be continuing with their 3D modelling next week.
In the afternoon, Year 2 came aboard with their teacher Mrs Corkill to develop their graphical modelling skills, using Pages (Page Layout) to create attractive pictures of a castle and a robot. As well as arranging and resizing shapes, the children also used the Left and Right CLICK to make the shapes ‘editable’ and to send them forwards and backwards and much more. alt+drag was also a popular new technique which saved much time allowing the duplication of shapes.
Thanks are particularly due to ICT coordinator Miss Stubbs for requesting and arranging the visit and to caretaker Mrs Cain for the parking cones and the electricity!
The bus will be back at St.Thomas’ School next Thursday for its last visit of 2019, and probably its last ever visit to the Meadow Campus site before it and it’s driver retire early next year.
