DAY 2 saw Year 6 do some of the best Sketchup work done on the computer bus by primary school pupils. Having surveyed members of the public in Ramsey yesterday about possible new uses for the soon to be demolished swimming pool, they set about proposing a design for a new leisure centre for the town.
Not content with creating the model in the fabulous Sketchup 3-D modelling program, they then went on to apply the finished model to a photograph of the site to create realistic and impressive mock-ups of how their design would look.
This was done using Apple’s Pages 08 program, and the excellent ‘instant alpha’ command which allows transparancy to be added where necessary to pasted illustrations.
Amongst the proposals were a ‘Petting Zoo’, various skating rinks, music venues, cinemas and much more. Several featured cafe’s and car parks, and Head Teacher Mrs Udy remarked on the inclusion of necessary health and safety features such as railings where necessary.
The ‘Ramsey Music Venue’ (top) even included parked cars which were scaled to perfection when placed alongside some of the real Ramsey cars caught in the original photograph.
Not bad for just one morning! Well done Year 6 and their teacher Miss Lewin for the idea.
In the afternoon, Year 5 combined iPhoto pictures (taken yesterday) Comic Life lettering, and the graphic effects available in Pages to make ‘Visit Ramsey’ holiday posters. Both Year 5 and their teacher learned many new techniques, and several of the posters would have done the town proud had they been used for real!
More from Andreas & Bride Schools and the computerbus later this term - next up - KEWAIGUE SCHOOL!

DAY 2 (of 5)
What do you build on the old swimming pool site in Ramsey? Just ask Andreas & Bride Schools’ Year 6 - who created some stunning 3-D models based on surveys carried out by them in the town. Oh, and Year 5 made some splendid ‘Visit Ramsey’ posters...
